Automator

Automator is probably one of the most powerful applications that comes pre-installed on your Mac, but 99% of Mac users don’t even realise it is there.  At this point you are probably wondering why I am talking about Automator.  I just said it comes pre-installed, so why do I need to review it?  Re-read the title, this is not a review.

The AppFlow slogon is “Working with your Mac: Simplified”, and that is exactly what I want to get back to, the roots of this website.  Helping your work with what is already on your Mac in order to work more effectively.

To start with, most of you probably aren’t even sure where it is located on your Mac, so the quickest way of opening it is to press Cmd+Space or click the spotlight icon in your system tray and then type “Automator”.  After a second of two Automator will appear as the top result.  Simply hit enter to open it.

Getting down to Business

Ok, so you’ve opened automator, and now you are being presented with this confusing array of workflow templates.  Today we’ll just select “Workflow” as our template.

I think the easiest way to show someone who is new to automator how to use automator is to quite literally show them, which is why I have prepared you a nice little video.  Coming is at 5:45 is is nice and short, and should mean you won’t get caught watching it by your boss.
