Apps like Things and Firetask are essential to any workflow. It means that we can all quickly, and efficiently, see what we need to do, when we need to do it by and how much it needs to be prioritised. Without Apps like this I know that I would be lost, and I know that many other people would also be lost, not knowing what needs to be done.
Today I am going to look at two of these Apps, the all-popular Things which I will be comparing to the relatively new App, Firetask. It will start with a video comparing the two Desktop Apps, followed by a written part looking at the iPhone counterparts.
To start, I will look and Firetask, and then Things. The Firetask interface is very simple, and easy to use. You have a row of cons along the bottom that take you to various other panels. Each of these contain the appropriate to-do items. When you have an over-due item it sets it’s little icon on fire so that you can easily see this. With this App there really is not much to say. It’s fast, it’s functional and it’s easy to use. I always think that with iPhone apps the best way to judge it is by the images of each screen as these will tell you everything you need to know about the App and how easy it is to use.

Firetask "Today" Section
So that shows off Firetask pretty well. Cheap, easy to use and has plenty of features for it’s price. Next though is the well respected App, Things.
Things has been around for a while now. As GTD apps go, you can’t get better known than Things, it is used by thousands of people to keep themselves organised, but how does it stack up to this new comer, Firetask?
If I am honest the only real difference between Things and Firetask is that Things has no Categories or Priority settings, but does have Tags instead. It is just as easy to use and uses the same GTD principles. But, and this is a Big But, Things has a price tag to go with it, and this is what I don’t like about it. I think that Things is over-priced, at £5.99 for the iPhone app, £11.99 for the iPad App and just over £30 for the desktop App. Although I cannot compare this desktop price to that of Firetask yet, I would be amazed if it costs as much as things.
If I am honest I think you are wasting your money on Things, I would, and will, go with Firetask all the way. To finish up, here’s some screenshots so you can see for yourself how Thing iPhone stacks up against Firetask.
