AppFlow

Skitch

Skitch is a very fast way of sharing snippets of information, weather it is a screenshot of an application error that you need help with, some text or a photo Skitch makes it very easy in deed.

Signing up took me just a few minutes, in fact the longest part was downloading the Skitch application which comes in at just 11.9MB.  So, it’s a small application, with an easy-to-use web service it works alongside, but does it actually do?

Introducing Skitch

Skitch is a very simple application that allows you to grab, upload and save snippets of information in the form of screenshots.  Ok, so why not just grab a screenshot you may ask?  Well that is precisely what I said to myself for a long time but now I have begun to use I have realised that their is some reasoning in Skitch.  Skitch does not just snapshot the information but it will also share the information to people all over the world.

Skitch Share Screen

Skitch Share Screen

Skitch gives you options to grab a link to embed or link to your image with a single click, in other words Skitch is making it as easy as possible for you to share your content with as many, of as few, people as you like.

Capturing Your Images

Capture Options

Capture Options

Skitch offers you a variety of ways to capture your images.  It will let you:

  • Capture Images with a crosshair (very much like pressing Cmd+Shift+4 on you Mac)
  • Capture the entire screen (Identicly to pressing Cmd+Shift+3 on your Mac)
  • Cam Snapshot, which means taking a photo with your Webcam

Once captured Skitch has a nice easy-to-use interface for making quick edits before uploading your skitch.

Skitch Edit Interface

As you can see from the screenshot the interface is generally pretty self-explanatory, making it easy to add circle, squares, custom shapes, arrows and text.  Then you can upload and share it with one click by hitting the “webpost” button.  If you don’t want to share it simply hit the “Save” button to save it to your account history.

On top of support for one-click saves to the Skitch website the application also offers to upload your images to your own FTP server of applications such as Flickr as well.

To be honest, that is all their really when it comes to the basics of Skitch, I think it is well worth a try for any Mac owner due to it’s fast and user friendly way to share files online.  I really don’t think you could ask much more of a free-online service.
